One of a kind. near perfect Saurbier New Jersey manufacturer, Presentation sword
presented to Capt Asa H Fitch, From your Northfield Friends 1862.
Asa started out in the war as a major was appointed according to his pensions from the national archieves to captain on July 24th 1862. At that time he was on leave in Northfield where he was presented the sword according to other documents. he was shot thru- the right leg at Winchester on 03/23/ 1862. Was discharge and according to letters to Gov. Tod requested to be enlisted again. On 09/21/1862 joined the 115th ohio. Major in 09/01/1862 and Lt. Col. 07/20/1864. Served out the war in many battles. died in Northfield of related injurys in 1870 according to doctors statements. Is buried in Northfield-Macedonia cemetery. No grave marker is present when I called the cemetery.. We have over 100 pages of history of this great man. 200 of his soldiers were killed on the Sutana explosion. He assisted with the defenses of Cincinnati. Served at Camp Dennison, and was court Martial president in covington and Cincinnati in 1863. His wife died at Covington Barracks across from Cincinnati. His marraige certificate, death notices, pensions are also with this great book put together on his life and times.... One of the finest swords from OHIO...
